Homeowners are looking for a sense of tranquility and peacefulness among these recent times. Considering that, California Paints’ selection of Quiet Peace as its 2027 Color of the Year is an ideal choice.

Quiet Peace is a deep, moody blue that evokes tranquility and calm at a time when homeowners and consumers are seeking it out more than ever before. Daniele Doerge, color expert at California Paints, says that there’s a lot going on in 2026, and consumers are feeling it.

“Uncertainty, overstimulation, and burnout are all too common, and our research has shown that consumers today are looking for respite,” says Doerge. “They want connection, optimism, balance, humanity and joy in a world that can feel increasingly hectic and overwhelming.

“Quiet Peace delivers on that need, offering serenity with a touch of bold to help homeowners turn their spaces into a true retreat from the everyday,” she adds. “It also reflects a growing desire to make home feel more intentional. It’s a place to slow down, reconnect and create surroundings that feel distinctly natural and personal. And unlike a conventional neutral, Quiet Peace delivers that sense of refuge through color.”

Doerge notes that Quiet Peace helps create a rich, enveloping atmosphere.

“Its depth brings visual impact while its subdued blue character keeps that impact from feeling frenetic,” Doerge observes. “It also reflects a broader shift from thinking about the home simply as something to decorate toward thinking about how a home should make us feel. It’s best suited to the spaces where people naturally seek respite: bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, reading areas and home offices. However, we think Quiet Peace would work well just about anywhere.”

Doerge notes that Quiet Peace is a hue that is well suited for the moment.

“Over the past few years, Color of the Year selections have reflected a desire for colors that feel comforting, personal and emotionally resonant, while also moving beyond the cool grays and simple neutrals that dominated interiors for so long,” said Doerge. “Depending on the brand, we’ve seen tranquil blues followed by richer, more nuanced choices and deeper, grounded shades for 2026.

“Quiet Peace taps into both of those movements while offering something fresh,” adds Doerge. “It uses the longstanding association between blue and calm, but its deeper, moodier character also reflects the growing embrace of saturated, enveloping color in the home. We think it feels connected to where color forecasting has been headed while still offering homeowners a fresh interpretation of blue.”

Doerge points out that Quiet Peace pairs nicely with a whole range of colors.

“One of the reasons we named Quiet Peace as our 2027 color of the year is because of its versatility,” she says. “It can create a cocooning backdrop on its own or serve as an anchoring hue for palettes that range from natural and understated to energetic and expressive. Soft browns, beiges and greens can be paired to invoke a return to nature, while brighter options like eye-grabbing yellows and dusty pinks can create a personalized and expressive retreat.

“It can help to create entirely different moods when paired with the right complementary colors,” Doerge notes. “Its moody blue character creates a strong visual foundation without dictating a single design style, allowing people to take the color in warmer, softer, bolder or more eclectic directions. Combined with brighter hues such as yellow, magenta or teal, the color takes on a more energetic and expressive personality while still serving as a stabilizing backdrop.”

Last year, California Paints chose Cactus Valley, an earthy green, as its 2026 Color of the Year. Doerge notes that Quiet Peace and Cactus Valley pair well because both colors are rooted in a sense of calm, balance and connection to the natural world.

“Cactus Valley brings an organic, grounded quality to a space, while Quiet Peace introduces a deeper blue that feels serene, enveloping and reflective. Together, they can create a layered, nature-inspired palette that feels sophisticated and restorative,” Doerge adds.

“Both colors also offer homeowners a lot of flexibility in how they’re used,” Doerge concludes. “Quiet Peace can serve as the deeper anchoring shade, with Cactus Valley bringing an organic accent through cabinetry, furniture or an adjoining room. Or Cactus Valley can establish a warm, grounded foundation while Quiet Peace adds contrast and depth. Because blue and green sit so comfortably together in nature, the combination feels cohesive but not overly coordinated.”
